Brewing Belgium’s finest beers since 1791

Brewing Belgium’s finest beers since 1791

Founded in 1791 by Jean-Baptist Bosteels in Buggenhout, Belgium the Bosteels family has carefully crafted beers with passion for over 200 years and seven generations.

Seven generations who have brewed with the same relentless rigour to produce Belgium’s finest beer, while continuously pushing their craft. As evidence, the Bosteels brewery has never stopped brewing, even during the World Wars.

In fact brewing has played such an important role in the history of the area that 3 generations of the 7 Bosteels have been town mayors.

By the 1930’s the 5th generation Bosteels,

Antoine Bosteels successfully expanded

the brewing dynasty of the family. With

sales of Bolsteels Pils now expanding into

Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels and other regions

of Belgium.

In the 1980’s Antoine's son Ivo Bosteels honoured the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by rightfully returning it back to the market, restoring an icon back to the world of beer. Signalling the beginning of a glorious relationship between the Bosteels family brewery and strong Belgian beers.

In 1990 Ivo’s own son, a 7th generation Bosteels, Antoine Bosteels recognized the incredible potential for strong beers, especially the emerging opportunity for strong blond beers, and then created the impeccable Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.

Build on respect for the past

Bosteels Brewery stands in the heart of the village of Buggenhout. In the spacious inner courtyard, two beautiful and dignified buildings rise up from the ground: the former Bosteels family residence and the iconic, whitewashed brewery tower.
The historically priceless listed Belgian family residence is built to the designs of the architect Minneart (Minneart Theatre, Gent). Inside you can discover even more about the family Bosteels heritage in the magnificent salon.
